The challenge
Most finance apps require an account before showing you anything, then keep your spending history on their servers. People who simply want to see where their money went are asked to hand over their financial life first, and those who do want their data available everywhere are usually offered no choice in the matter either.
What we did
- Local-first by default: data is stored on the user’s own device, and the onboarding screen states plainly that nothing is sent anywhere.
- Setup asks only what to call you. Email is optional and needed only if you later upgrade to sync across devices.
- Syncing offered as a deliberate upgrade rather than a precondition, so privacy is the default and convenience is a choice.
- Delivered across web and mobile so the same records are available wherever someone prefers to track them.
The outcome
Parukh is live at parukh.app, opening straight into the user’s own local data with no account required to start.
